Education is the light that removes the darkness of ignorance. Yet, in Pakistan’s distant and mountainous regions, this light often struggles to reach. The smiles of girls who dream, the joy of learning, “smiling faces, brighter futures,” and “dreams woven into school uniforms” remain unreachable luxuries for thousands of children.Ad
But sometimes, the smallest spark can illuminate an entire valley.
This is the philosophy embraced by Choudhry Muhammad Yousaf (JP)—a generous social personality originally from Pona Kahalah, Samahni, now residing in the United Kingdom. His contributions played a vital role in constructing the foundational structure of a community school in a remote part of Azad Kashmir. The local people, parents, and students express deep gratitude for his generosity.
For the children of this rugged region, the light of education used to flicker weakly. Illiteracy was widespread, and the absence of even the most basic educational facilities kept countless children deprived of their right to learn. Children were caught in a cycle of poverty that seemed unbreakable.
The nearest government school was more than three kilometers away, across steep mountain paths, narrow ridges, and dangerous stormwater streams. Imagine a five-year-old walking through wild terrain, carrying books, slipping on muddy slopes, in scorching summers and freezing winters. For many children—especially girls—reaching school was nearly impossible.
Most children dropped out before completing primary school. For girls, school was not even an option.
But change, as history shows, often begins with a single step—one act of courage, one decision rooted in hope.
In Narali Kadyala, Samahni Tehsil, District Bhimber, a transformation began because of the vision
Witnessing the painful reality of his village, he asked himself: If the mountain will not bring children to school, why not bring the school to the children?
Six years ago, without land, without a building, without funding—armed only with determination—he opened a school in the upper floor of his own house. His home became a classroom, his passion became the driving force, and his dream became the hope of dozens of families.
Today, that small beginning has grown into a thriving school with nearly 70 students — most of them girls.
This alone marks a revolution in an area where generations of girls had never seen the inside of a classroom.
For these girls, education is not just reading and writing — it is dignity, confidence, and a doorway to independence. Each girl sitting in that classroom is breaking a barrier that once seemed immovable.
Through continuous community support, the school has acquired land and built three classrooms. Walls that once echoed with silence now resound with laughter, questions, and the sound of pencils scratching across paper — sounds that were once unheard in this valley.
Yet, challenges remain.
To accommodate new students, the school urgently needs two more classrooms, functional washrooms, proper furniture, and essential learning materials. Teachers, working with unmatched dedication, often manage with limited resources, but their resolve remains strong.
Every child who learns a new word, writes a sentence, or solves a math problem becomes a symbol of hope. A sign that even the smallest effort can rewrite destinies.
Education is not a privilege; it is a necessity — a right that shapes character, builds nations, and enables individuals to rise above circumstances.
When a child learns, a family transforms. When families transform, entire communities rise.
This humble school stands as living proof that determination can defeat deprivation. What began as a personal initiative has grown into a community-led movement. Yet for this movement to flourish, support is needed — from kind-hearted individuals, organizations, and anyone who believes in the transformative power of education.
Every contribution — financial or material — can help complete construction, provide books, or ensure that no child is forced to walk three kilometers again just to access learning.
Here, “Education for All” is not just a slogan. It is a living promise — a promise to turn illiteracy into literacy and hopelessness into opportunity.
This remote mountain school represents the life-changing impact one person’s mission can make. Today, 70 children — mostly girls — are gaining access to education and a brighter future because one man chose to believe that change is possible.
Choudhry Muhammad Yousaf (JP) recognized the suffering and responded with generosity and vision. His support helped turn a dream into a structure—one that continues to uplift an entire community.

In these mountains, where school used to be a distant dream, a new story is being written — a story of courage, compassion, community, and the unstoppable power of education.Ad
